The Contemporary Austin transformed Laguna Gloria into a whimsical circus-themed wonderland on November 3 for its third annual fundraiser, The Very ‘Rary. Co-chaired by Natalie Armendariz, Leyla Abou-Samra, and Adrienne Bosh, the event welcomed over 1,000 children and families for a day filled with art, performances, and community spirit, all in support of arts education for Austin’s youth.

This year’s fundraiser broke ticket sales records while underscoring a vital mission: ensuring access to creative expression for local students. The Contemporary Austin’s programs currently serve 2,600 K-12 students and reach over 4,000 children and families, offering hands-on art experiences and opportunities to amplify young voices.

A carnival of artistic experiences

The event featured a variety of captivating activities and performances. Highlights included Mad Science’s interactive demonstrations, an electrifying set by School of Rock, and a falconry display by Sky Kings. Mavyn Vu’s Digital Funhouse added a technological twist with optical illusions, while hands-on art stations invited participants to craft circus crowns, marionettes, and sketchbooks across the 14-acre Laguna Gloria grounds. Stilt walkers, jugglers, and face painters added to the immersive atmosphere, bringing the circus theme to life.

Local favorites like Allday Pizza, P. Terry’s, and Tiff’s Treats provided refreshments, while sponsors including H-E-B, Frost Bank, and ThunderCloud Subs, along with dedicated volunteers, made the event possible.

The Very ‘Rary celebration directly supports arts education programs that impact thousands of Austin students and families annually. By blending interactive art experiences with community engagement, the fundraiser emphasizes the importance of creative expression in shaping the next generation. This year’s record-breaking success highlights the strong community support for ensuring access to arts education across the city.
