Motherhood is a journey of profound transformation, filled with joy, challenges and countless transitions. It calls for both practical tools and a supportive community to navigate its complexities. Nicole Trunfio, a model, entrepreneur, and advocate for women, has long been passionate about empowering women and amplifying the voices of mothers—a passion that deepened when she became a mother herself. Originally from Australia and married to musician Gary Clark Jr., Trunfio conceived the idea for BUMPSUIT during her pregnancy with their third child, blending her personal experience with a drive to innovate the maternity space.
“I felt this massive responsibility come over me to create this brand two months before I gave birth,” says Triunfo.
Observing a significant gap in the outdated maternity and postpartum market, she was inspired to create a brand that supports women and fosters a sense of community where pregnant women and new mothers can feel seen and heard. She launched the brand the week before her third child was born.
Expanding support for mothers through community initiatives
Her mission has blossomed into impactful initiatives such as The BUMP CLUB, which organizes Mommy and Me walks in cities across the U.S., including Austin, NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago, and Denver, with plans to expand further in 2025. Triunfo also hosts “The Village” podcast by BUMPSUIT, offering insightful discussions on maternity, childbirth, postpartum and parenthood.
Recognizing the diversity of experiences in pregnancy and motherhood, the brand sponsors an annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Retreat each October. This retreat provides vital support to those who have experienced loss, creating a safe space for connection and healing for mothers who may feel isolated during such a profound time. Triunfo’s work is a beacon of support and empowerment for women everywhere.
In November, a new store opened in Austin, taking the community aspect of BUMPSUIT’s mission to another level. This extended pop-up offers a transformative shopping experience for moms-to-be, new mothers and families.
A community-centered space showcasing maternity and postpartum collections
Designed by renowned architect Will Fox of Fox & Fox, the store showcases BUMPSUIT’s full range of collections, including intimate shapewear, cozy loungewear, healing compression wear for recovery, elegant occasion wear for events and baby showers, and exciting new categories like activewear and terry sweatsuits. Signature best-sellers and the award-winning Armadillo baby carrier will also be available, making this a one-stop destination for all things maternity, postpartum, and beyond.
This inaugural retail space reflects BUMPSUIT’s commitment to supporting women through the transition from pregnancy to motherhood, embodying the brand’s values of community and empowerment. A standout feature of the store is its central playpen-inspired area—an oversized interactive space with seating designed to foster connections among moms and their babies.
“What we want to accomplish with our retail is always to have an element of play,” says Triunfo. “It’s not just a store—it’s a community hub for moms and their kids.”
Curated products and community events
Further enhancing the experience is the BUMPSUIT Marketplace, offering a curated selection of 25 must-have products trusted by moms. These include essentials from brands like Nuna, Coterie, Comotomo, Elvie, Haakaa, Frida Baby and Hatch, providing solutions for pregnancy and postpartum. The Marketplace will also be available online, ensuring mothers can access these thoughtfully selected products everywhere.
Throughout the six-month pop-up, BUMPSUIT hosts weekly in-store events focused on education, support, and community-building. Highlights include labor and delivery classes, Mommy & Me gatherings, sound baths, women’s circles, and workshops with Marketplace partners such as Baby’s First Aid with Frida Baby, Lactation and Nursing with Elvie, and Diapering 101 with Coterie.
“My main function of the brand is to innovate and redefine the maternity space,” says Triunfo.
The BUMPSUIT pop-up at Domain NORTHSIDE marks the beginning of the brand’s retail expansion, emphasizing its mission to empower women, support mothers, and create spaces for connection. The temporary location offers classes, a selection of curated products, and versatile clothing designed for pregnancy and beyond.
