Actor Glen Powell, known for roles in “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Twisters” and “Hit Man,” is set to host a tailgate-style promotional event in Austin to celebrate his new Hulu series “Chad Powers” and introduce his organic condiment brand, Smash Kitchen.
The free event takes place Friday at the Walmart Supercenter, 9300 S. Interstate 35 Ste. B, Austin, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is first-come, first-served with RSVP required. Guests must be 18 or older to attend due to a TV-MA screening.
What to expect
Attendees can expect complimentary food, games and live entertainment, including a live cooking demo with Powell and celebrity chef Nick DiGiovanni. Activities include cup pong, a quarterback throw challenge and photo ops at a field goal post setup. Smash Kitchen’s lineup of organic, non-GMO condiments — including ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce — will also be available to sample.
The event will feature a screening of “Chad Powers,” Hulu’s new American sports comedy series created by Powell and Michael Waldron. Powell stars alongside Steve Zahn and Perry Mattfeld in the role of Russ Holliday, a disgraced former college quarterback who attempts a comeback by posing as “Chad Powers,” a walk-on for a struggling Southern football team. The first two episodes premiered September 30 on Hulu.
Smash Kitchen, launched by Powell earlier this year, focuses on clean-label condiments made with organic ingredients, no high-fructose corn syrup and no artificial additives. Products are sold exclusively at Walmart and online.
As part of the local rollout, Austin-based burger chain Mighty Fine is partnering with Smash Kitchen for October’s Burger of the Month: the Smash Kitchen Hot Honey BBQ Burger. Launching Monday, October 6, the limited-time burger features Creekstone smashed patties, Smash Kitchen Hot Honey BBQ Sauce, coleslaw, pickles and onions. It will be available at all Mighty Fine locations throughout the month.
