The Contemporary Austin introduced a new approach to its annual gala on Oct. 25, reimagining the traditional Art Dinner by expanding the event to include an inaugural Afterparty, open to a wider public. The event transformed Laguna Gloria, the museum’s lakeside sculpture park, into an immersive evening experience that highlighted Austin’s vibrant art scene.
A Sensory Journey through Laguna Gloria
More than 300 guests attended the Art Dinner, including art collectors, civic leaders, business professionals, and philanthropists. The event raised $1.4 million to support the museum’s programs, including exhibitions, educational initiatives, and support for emerging artists.
As night descended over the 14-acre Laguna Gloria, the Afterparty invited attendees into an interactive experience designed to engage the senses.
Performers J’cuuzi and DJ SuperNova from Pangea Sound provided the evening’s soundtrack, while live body-painting sessions allowed guests to participate as “living art.” Palm and tarot readings added a mystical element, and fire dancers lit up the grounds, creating a visually captivating experience.
A New Chapter for Austin’s Art Scene
The menu featured an array of thoughtfully crafted offerings. Guests enjoyed cocktails from Garage and artisanal espresso drinks from Luna Espresso, with Dolce Bacio Gelato providing dessert. RESTART CBD + THC offered contemporary refreshments that added a unique twist to the event.
By introducing the Afterparty, The Contemporary Austin has expanded its reach, allowing more members of the community to engage with its programs. This shift reflects an evolving approach in the art world, where institutions are increasingly focused on accessibility and inclusivity.
The success of the Afterparty demonstrates the potential for such events to bring together diverse audiences, celebrating art in a dynamic and inclusive setting that may influence the future of similar events in Austin and beyond.
